- Jindo Dasiraegi (Funeral Play)

- National Intangible Cultural Heritage, 1985

Dasiraegi is a traditional folk theater of Jindo that transforms the sorrow of mourning during the funeral period into humor, satire, and communal consolation.

The term ¡°Dasiraegi¡± is commonly interpreted as originating from ¡°Dasinagi¡± (to be born again), ¡°Dasirak¡± (to enjoy together), and ¡°Daesi-raegi¡± (to wait for the spirit¡¯s departure at its destined time). In this ritual play, villagers gather to honor the deceased and comfort the bereaved through night-long performances filled with music, playful gestures, and humorous dialogue. Jindo Dasiraegi is a distinctive form of funeral procession theater that embodies the community¡¯s emotional resilience, collective spirit, and traditional wisdom
