남도잡가는
조선 후기 전문 예인들에 의해 불리던 속요 형태의 노래로, 대중의
감성과 삶을 담은 음악입니다.
시조나
가곡처럼 정제된 노래는 아니지만, 서민의
정서를 직설적으로 풀어낸다는 점에서 독자적인 가치를 지닙니다. 진도에서는
이러한 잡가가 오늘날까지도 전승되고 있으며, 지역
소리꾼들에 의해 다양한 형태로 계승되고 있습니다.

Japga refers to popular folk songs developed by professional performers during
the late Joseon
Dynasty.
Unlike
refined court music, these songs candidly express the emotions and everyday
lives of common people. In
Jindo, this tradition remains vibrant, preserved and performed in various forms
by local singers to this
day.
